Brazil is a unique country born from a blend of many cultures. It is in this characteristic that the uniqueness of the country as well as the arduousness of designing health interventions lays. Relying in health system based on private and public system integration the country has built an interesting way to improve oncology care.

Radiation oncology is defined as a medical specialty that uses ionizing radiation to treat and prevent certain diseases (cancer and non-cancer) and it´s the main focus on discussion. The article Brazil’s Challenges and Opportunities (Moraes FY et al) published on the July issue of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology and Physics outlines the scenery of the radiotherapy on the country since its first actions till the future needs. The paucity of qualified professionals and the increase of cancer incidence and prevalence in the country are shown as real issues. Planning and developing ways to improve cancer care are taking place now however it takes time, investments and training. The authors, in sum, provide an outline on goals, needs and actions that are taking place to patients care, medical education (residency programs) and research needs. And also highlight that the country has a lot to offer and still a lot to grow.
